Commission's Road Safety Quick Indicator 2003 released

Publication date: 26 January 2004

The European Commission/DG TREN released today the 2003 version of its Road Safety Quick Indicator, which provides information on the evolution of road accidents causing injuries in the Community.

The Road Safety Quick Indicator is based on provisional data in order to assist decision-makers in comparing their current national situation with other Member States. In view of providing recent trends, the system is based on the collection of monthly provisional data which are compared with provisional data of the previous year. Comparisons with final data show that Quick Indicator trends based on provisional data are very similar to the equivalent trends based on definitive data published.

Due to the diverging national definitions, data are not comparable from country to country.  The main interest of the Quick Indicator is to show the trends - month by month or on a longer period - within a given country.
