Green Light for Safer Tunnels

Today, the European Parliament backed new laws designed to boost the safety of European road tunnels. Following a recommendation from Reinhard Rack, Parliament gave second reading approval to proposals to improve the safety of tunnels on the trans-European Road network (COD(2002)0309). MEPs made no amendments to the Council's common position.

Next step:
The proposals must now be approved by national governments before they can become law.
