Mutual Recognition to Financial Penalties

Today, the Justice and Home Affairs Council adopted without debate the framework decision on the application of the principle of mutual recognition to financial penalties.

The  objective  of  this  Framework  Decision  is  to  apply  the  principle  of  mutual  recognition  to financial penalties imposed by judicial or administrative authorities for the purpose of  facilitating the enforcement of such penalties in a member State other than the State in which the penalties are imposed. 

 

This framework decision covers all financial penalties including those imposed in respect of road traffic offences which are 70 Euros and above.
