No compulsory reflecting jacket for foreign drivers in Spain

Publication date: 08 July 2004

Foreign drivers in Spain won't be punished if they are caught not wearing a reflective jacket on leaving their vehicle on a highway after an accident or a breakdown. Since July 2004, such jackets have been made a compulsory in-car accessory for all drivers in Spain.

After several requests and talks with the Spanish Traffic Agency, the RACC has negotiated an exemption for non-national drivers according to which the Spanish police should advise the "offender" about the convenience of wearing a jacket to make him/her more visible to other drivers, but will not sanction him/her.
