Third Driving Licence Directive on the EP Agenda

Publication date: 30 July 2004

After months of inactivity, the draft third Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on Driving Licences COM(2003) 621 final - (COD(2003) 0252) will be back on the agenda of the European Parliament (EP) this October.

Following the reconfiguration of Parliamentary committees and members last week in Strasbourg, the Transport and Tourism Committee re-nominated Mathieu Grosch (EPP, B) as Rapporteur of the European Parliaments Report. Mr Grosch’s draft Report was tabled earlier this year but has not yet been voted in Committee. Interested stakeholders are waiting if new amendments will be added in this new session.

AIT and FIA welcome a recast of the Directive in order to improve the mobility of motorists throughout the European Union and also to enhance road safety. However, many proposals go beyond these stated aims and AIT & FIA are responding accordingly. Click here.
