Transport Ministers back 30 TEN-T Projects
Publication date: 05 December 2003
During today's Transport Council, Ministers have reached a political agreement on the guidelines for the Trans-European Transport Networks (TEN-T).
The original list - based on the Van Miert Report - covered 29 priority projects, but national governments unanimously agreed that the Seine-Escaut waterway should be added to the plan. The total cost of the 30 projects, estimated at around €220 billion, is to be covered by EU and national funding, with support from the European Investment Bank and the private sector between now and 2020. Under the outlined plans the maximum contributions from the EU budget would be raised from ten to 20 per cent for certain cross border links.

Today's agreement will now be forwarded to the Parliament for its second reading (co-decision procedure). The Parliament transport committee is expected to vote on this issue mid-February 2004.
