Arab Automobile Clubs: Building mobility links in Saudi Arabia and Jordan
Publication date: 24 October 2011
“We welcome the intention to build on current motorsport activities by offering new services in the area of mobility”, said FIA Region I Director General, Jacob Bangsgaard who was invited to an informal dinner by His Royal Highness Prince Sultan Bin Bandar Al-Faisal, President of SAMF, on 24 October 2011. They were joined by the President of FIA Region I, Werner Kraus, and SAMF Secretary General, Dr Saleh Al Solai.
Mr Kraus and Mr Bangsgaard also held discussions with Saudi Automobile & Touring Association (SATA) President Riyadh S. Almalik. Mr Kraus said, “We would like to encourage the development of new and expanded services in the areas of breakdown assistance, insurance, tourism and road safety throughout the region, and to see more Arab Clubs adding mobility services to the motorsport activities they already support”.
The next day discussions were held with the Royal Automobile Club of Jordan (RACJ). Club Chairman Walid Asfour and representatives from the RACJ Board met with Mr Bangsgaard and Mr Kraus to give them an update on their Club’s activities, as well as a tour of the RACJ driving Centre.
The Arab Council of Touring and Automobile Clubs (ACTAC) formally became a sub-region of FIA Region I in early 2009, while a dedicated website for the region was launched earlier this year: www.fiaregion1.com/en/fia_acta/fia_actac.htm
