Decade of Action in Austria
The risk of young drivers between 18 and 24 getting killed on the road is three times higher than for all other ages. In the framework of the Decade of Action for Road Safety, the OAMTC has taken its own action in order to help reduce the number of young traffic victims.
The OAMTC event for the Decade of Action highlighted the stories of young people who died in traffic accidents through the use of a number of life-size black wooden silhouettes. The silhouettes (“Schatten”) are based on the photographs of different road fatalities. On each of the silhouettes a short text describes the life and circumstances which led to the death of each young person. The first name, dates of birth and death, as well as a photograph serving as a sample for the silhouette, were all included in the silhouettes.
These silhouettes will be presented in exhibitions in schools throughout Austria. The campaign aims to improve the awareness of young drivers about specific dangers and causes of accidents on the road by drawing attention to the real life example of their peers.
